The Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GIPH), the country’s largest organization of employers and economic self-government in the broadly defined mining sector, has sent a letter to Prime Minister Donald Tusk regarding the draft National Energy and Climate Plan 2030, with an outlook to 2040 (NECP).
In the letter, dated September 4th of this year, GIPH expressed deep concern about the direction taken in the new energy strategy developed by the Ministry of Climate and Environment. The Chamber points out that, contrary to comments submitted by the industry during public consultations, the draft envisages accelerated decarbonization and the near-complete elimination of solid fuels by 2040, while also assuming that nearly 80% of electricity will come from renewable energy sources.
The GIPH believes that this approach poses a serious risk to Poland’s energy security. The organization emphasizes that stabilizing the energy system solely based on nuclear energy and energy storage within the assumed timeframe and scale is unrealistic, and that relying on weather-dependent sources could lead to disruptions in energy supply.
The letter also highlights methodological and substantive errors in the NECP, concerning both the technical assumptions and cost analyses and financing sources. Given the scale of the threats, the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GIPH) appeals to the Prime Minister to intervene and have the NECP re-examined by independent experts, taking into account the opinions of business circles expressed in public consultations.
On September 5, 2025, the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce received a letter from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister addressed to the Ministry of Energy. The letter requested a response to the GIPH’s request, with a copy sent to the Office of the Prime Minister.
