The Industrial Development Agency (ARP) Katowice Branch is a key entity supporting strategic economic decision-making by government bodies in the area of Poland’s energy policy. The Agency fulfills its mission by providing essential data, reports, analyses, and opinions on the market and the operation of the hard coal mining sector.
As part of its activities, the ARP Katowice Branch supports entities in the fuel and energy sector by offering services enabling them to make rational economic decisions and implement solutions that enable development, gain a competitive advantage, and improve efficiency. Additionally, the Branch monitors the operation of the hard coal mining industry in Poland and carries out tasks commissioned by the Minister of Economy, based on the provisions of the Act of September 7, 2007, on the Operation of the Hard Coal Mining Industry.
The basis for monitoring the hard coal mining sector is quantitative and qualitative data provided by domestic hard coal producers, as well as data obtained as part of the “Hard Coal and Lignite Mining” public statistics research program, implemented by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) at the request of the Minister of Economy.
As part of this monitoring, the ARP Branch in Katowice collects, aggregates, and analyzes data, prepares opinions, and proposes actions in all key areas of activity of the domestic hard coal mining sector, such as:
- Manufacturing activities,
- Sales and distribution,
- Economic and financial activities,
- Investment activities,
- Asset development and disposal,
- Restructuring processes,
- Correct use of budget subsidies.
The ARP S.A. Branch in Katowice has been monitoring the hard coal mining industry since March 1, 2003. Initially, it focused on monitoring restructuring processes, but over time, the Branch’s activities expanded to include monitoring the hard coal market. Simultaneously, mechanisms and tools for acquiring, processing, analyzing, and evaluating monitoring results were developed, ensuring the quality, stability, and diversity of data sources.
Thanks to the knowledge and experience of the Branch’s highly qualified staff and the efficiency of its data collection and processing processes, ARP has created a system for optimally utilizing sectoral statistical data operationally. This significantly shortens the time required for strategic decision-making in the hard coal mining sector, increasing the effectiveness of its activities.
