Industry Skills Center "Ore Mining 4.0"

In 2023, MEIN is introducing a new type of educational institution into the education system, namely BCU sectoral skills centres implementing the concept of centres of vocational excellence (CoVEs).

These are industry-oriented centers in one of the professional fields conducting activities:

educational and training

supporting cooperation between schools and universities and employers

innovation and development disseminating knowledge and new technologies as well as ecological and digital transformation

supporting the implementation of career counseling for students and the professional activation of students, doctoral students and graduates

The BCU program is aimed at students, teachers, and employees in a given professional field.

The Copper Personnel Training Center (MCK) received funding for the project to establish a BCU for underground mining and processing of metal ores and mineral resources.

Industry-specific skills centers are established and operated based on agreements guaranteeing cooperation between the school’s governing body and the industry organization responsible for the given field.

BCU ORE MINING 4.0 Center of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) for underground mining, metal ore processing, and mineral raw materials

The project is being implemented under the Development Plan: a document referred to in Article 17(1) of Regulation 2021/241, which serves as the basis for implementing reforms and investments supported by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, i.e., the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO).

Investment: A3.1.1. Supporting the development of modern vocational education, higher education, and lifelong learning.

Specific investment objective: Providing space for effective cooperation between schools, including vocational schools, universities, employers, research and development centers, and other business environment institutions, and promoting vocational education.

The aim of the project is to establish and support the operation of an Industry Skills Center in the field of underground mining, metal ore processing, and mineral resources (Division). The project involves the construction of a teaching building – the headquarters of the BCU; the creation of a training room for conducting classes on emergency procedures and first aid in underground mines, along with the purchase of necessary equipment; the creation of a Mining 4.0 workshop, along with the purchase of necessary equipment; the creation of a station for training in underground masonry work, along with the purchase of a set of scaffolding; the purchase of welding simulators and the necessary software; the creation of SMG maintenance workshops, along with the purchase of equipment; the expansion of the conveyor belt station, along with the purchase of a control panel; the purchase of equipment for classrooms and administrative offices; the development and introduction of qualifications in the programming of metal ore mining machinery and equipment into the ZSK (Internal Qualifications System) along with obtaining the right to conduct certification in this field; and the implementation of a vocational training program related to the Division.

Investment scope:

Establishment and support for the operation of 120 industry-based skills centres (BCUs), implementing the concept of centres of vocational excellence (CoVEs).

The project is being carried out in partnership with KGHM Polska Miedź SA, the Polish Copper Employers' Association and the Mining Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
