- On 19 October, the Parliamentary Team for Mining and Energy met in Warsaw. During the meeting, GIPH President Janusz Olszowski gave a presentation entitled “Mandatory Burdens on Hard Coal Mining in Poland.”

- On 27 September, the first workshop meeting of the Regional Energy Council took place, attended by a representative of the Chamber.
- On 26 September, a plenary meeting of the Voivodeship Social Dialogue Council took place in Katowice. The meeting was attended by the President of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
- On 15–16 September, the Mining Economic Forum took place at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. During the conference, GIPH President Janusz Olszowski delivered one of the papers at the plenary session entitled “Mining as a Strategic Area of the National Economy.”

- On 27 June, the ceremonial General Assembly of Representatives of the Members of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce took place.
- On 8–10 June, the 7th edition of the “Public Procurement School” conference was held in Wisła.
- On 10–11 May, the 4th Coaltrans Poland Conference took place in Kraków, attended by a representative of the Chamber.
- On 5 and 16 May, meetings of the Energy Team operating at GIPH were held at the Chamber’s headquarters.
- On 18 April, a meeting of the Voivodeship Social Dialogue Council took place in the Marble Hall of the Silesian Parliament in Katowice. During the meeting, the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce presented to the Council a draft position on the problems affecting companies and institutions surrounding the hard coal mining sector and on the necessary measures aimed at improving the situation of this group of entrepreneurs.
- On 1 March, a meeting of representatives of coal companies with members of the international Bettercoal association took place at the Silesian Museum in Katowice.
- On 25 February, awards and distinctions in the Mining Success of the Year Competition, organized by the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the School of Underground Mining, were presented in Kraków.
- On 5 February, a meeting of the Tripartite Team for Miners’ Social Security was held in Warsaw. For the first time, the Chamber represented the employers’ side.
- On 25 January, the General Assembly of EURACOAL, the European Association for Hard Coal and Lignite, took place. During the meeting, new authorities of the association were elected, and the position of one of the Vice-Presidents was taken by GIPH President Janusz Olszowski.
- On 20 January, the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce were inaugurated with a New Year Concert.
- On 13 January, a meeting of members of the Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship Section of the National Development Council was held at the Ministry of Finance, during which a representative of GIPH discussed the issue of financial burdens imposed on the hard coal mining sector.
- On 28 January, a meeting of the GIPH Council and an Extraordinary General Assembly of Representatives of the Members of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce took place.
- On 26 February, awards and distinctions in the “Mining Success of the Year” competition were presented.

- In April, the Chamber hosted a delegation of representatives of the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce. The Presidents of the Chambers signed a letter of intent concerning the establishment of cooperation between the chambers.

- On 10–12 June, the 6th edition of the “Public Procurement School” conference took place.

- A meeting devoted to the draft of European Standard EN 50628, containing safety requirements for the construction of electrical installations in underground mines, was held at the Chamber’s headquarters.
- On 27 February, awards and distinctions in the “Mining Success of the Year” competition were presented.
- In May, the Chamber hosted Adiya Ganbaatar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia, and Barkhas Dorj, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Mongolia in Poland.
- On 3 June, the 26th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened.
- On 4–6 June, the 5th edition of the “Public Procurement School” conference was held in Ustroń.
- On 23 September, an off-site meeting of the members of the Mining Machinery Cluster was held in Wolbrom, at the headquarters of Linter S.A.

- The Constitutional Tribunal resolved a dispute lasting several years between coal companies and municipalities concerning the taxation of underground mine workings and the infrastructure located within them.
- The Chamber hosted a delegation of representatives of the hard coal sector from Ukraine.
- On 27 June, the 23rd General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened.
- On 26–27 September, the 2nd edition of the Public Procurement School conference took place.

- On 25 February, during the gala of the 19th School of Underground Mining in Kraków, awards and distinctions were presented in the first edition of the “Mining Success of the Year” competition, organized by the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the School of Underground Mining — and still organized by them today.
- On 1–4 June, the President of the Chamber, Janusz Olszowski, participated in the International Specialized Exhibition “Coal and Mining 2010” in Novokuznetsk.

- Janusz Olszowski, President of GIPH, received a diploma of appreciation for “help in promoting ecological solidarity, as well as for activities supporting an effective, efficient and fair European climate policy.”
- The Chamber participated in the International Fair of Mining, Power Industry and Metallurgy “KATOWICE 2009.”
- On 4–6 November, an economic mission of representatives of the Colombian mining industry stayed in the Silesian Voivodeship at the invitation of GIPH.
- On 4 December, the Chamber launched a social campaign promoting mining in Poland.

- On 27 February, a cooperation agreement between GIPH and the Higher School of Marketing Management and Foreign Languages in Katowice was signed in Katowice.
- The Chamber, together with the KADRA Trade Union Alliance and the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians, addressed an open letter to Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, expressing the mining community’s concern about the personnel policy affecting the sector and calling on the government to adopt a specific programme for mining.
- Seminars organized by GIPH were held on “Management of Mining Waste under the New Legal Framework” and “Amendment to Public Procurement Law.”
- On 26 June, the 18th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened.
- On 16–21 September, a specialized economic mission to Irkutsk, Russia, intended for the mining and energy sectors, took place, attended by Chamber President Janusz Olszowski.

- On 3 February, Karl Friedrich Jakob, Vice-President of RAG COAL INTERNATIONAL, visited GIPH.
- On 27 July, a meeting devoted to the problems faced by energy consumers in connection with the entry into force of the new Energy Law was held at the GIPH headquarters.
- The Chamber participated in the International Fair of Mining, Energy and Metallurgy “KATOWICE 2005.”
- In September, a meeting of Czech and Polish chambers of commerce took place in Náchod, Czech Republic, during which the activities of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce were presented.

- The Chamber, in cooperation with the Technical Assistance Information Exchange Office of the European Commission (TAIEX), organized a conference on the European Union’s policy regarding energy security and energy raw materials.
- A meeting of GIPH members took place with the aim of developing the Chamber’s programme of activities for 2004, with particular emphasis on undertakings related to the problems of mining restructuring and accession to the European Union.
- GIPH organized a seminar entitled “The Use of Products in Mining Plants after Poland’s Accession to the EU.”
- In May, Chamber President Janusz Olszowski took part in an intersectoral economic mission to Lille, France.

- The Chamber issued an appeal to the Minister of Economy, Labour and Social Policy to resolve the problem of the indebtedness of hard coal producers toward suppliers of goods and services.
- On 23 June, the 15th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members took place.
- On 18 November, the Chamber organized a seminar entitled “Possibilities for Protecting the Polish Coal Market and the Role of Polish Coal after Poland’s Accession to the European Union.”
- GIPH submitted a request to Prime Minister Leszek Miller to have the Government of the Republic of Poland take the initiative regarding an amendment to the Act of 30 August 2002 on the restructuring of certain public-law liabilities of entrepreneurs.
- GIPH asked its members to express their opinions on the assumptions of the government package “Entrepreneurship Above All.”
- A number of opinions, expert studies, and proposals were submitted to representatives of the government side, including those concerning the excise tax on energy.
- On 28 March, by decision of the President of the Public Procurement Office, GIPH was entered on the list of employers’ and entrepreneurs’ organizations authorized to lodge appeals in public procurement proceedings.
- In March and April, the Chamber conducted a series of training sessions and workshops on “Water Law,” “Waste Management,” and “Use and Storage of Waste in Mining Technologies.”
- On 24 June, the 14th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members took place.
- The Chamber prepared a study entitled “Proposals for Amendments to Legal Acts Hindering the Restructuring of Mining.”
- On 27–28 September and 30–31 October, the Chamber conducted training workshops concerning the application of public procurement legislation in mining.
- On 26 April, a meeting was held at the Chamber’s headquarters with, among others, representatives of coal companies and an advisor to the Minister of Economy, concerning the possibility of reconciling the interests of hard coal producers and the power sector.
- On 18 June, the 13th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened.
- Meetings were held with representatives of the government side, including Senator Adam Graczyński.
- On 4–7 September, the Chamber took part in the International Fair of Mining, Energy, Metallurgy and Chemistry “KATOWICE 2001.”
- On 19 November, the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce celebrated its 10th anniversary.
- On 18 January, the 12th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened.
- On 14 February, the GIPH Council met at the headquarters of the State Hard Coal Mining Restructuring Agency S.A. in Katowice. During the meeting, among other matters, the participants reviewed the report on the Chamber’s activities in 1999 and adopted the budget for the year 2000.
- Representatives of GIPH took part in the regular meetings of sectoral chambers organized by the Polish Chamber of Commerce.
- The Chamber hosted: representatives of the European Coal and Steel Community in Luxembourg, the First Secretary of the British Embassy in Warsaw together with the Honorary Consul, representatives of an economic mission from the Karaganda Region in Kazakhstan, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journals “Mining Weekly” and “Engineering News” published in South Africa, and the Trade Consul of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Katowice.
- On 17 March, a meeting of hard coal producers devoted to the state’s policy toward mining was held at GIPH.
- The GIPH Management Board sent letters to: the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Policy concerning the right to a reduced retirement age for persons employed in special occupations, and to Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Steinhoff, submitting two documents in defence of companies associated in the Chamber (a complaint and a motion to repeal a decision of the Energy Regulatory Office).
- On 6 November, a conference entitled “Polish Mining, Metallurgy and Foundry Industry and Integration with the European Union”, co-organized by GIPH, took place.
- Meetings were held with representatives of the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Katowice and the Polish Chamber of Commerce concerning cooperation between chambers and the problems encountered in their activities by sectoral organizations.
- On 9 February, the Constitutional Tribunal ruled on the compliance with the Constitution and the Geological and Mining Law of the Regulation of the Council of Ministers on fees for activities conducted under the provisions of the Geological and Mining Law. The position of GIPH in this matter was presented by Chamber President Janusz Olszowski.
- GIPH participated in the meetings of the team appointed by the Ministry of the Environment concerning new solutions in the field of economic instruments for environmental protection, as well as in meetings of the Parliamentary Economy Committee.
- Meetings were held with representatives of the government side, including Senator Jerzy Markowski, MP Czesław Śleziak, and MP Kazimierz Milner.
- On 26 March, another regular meeting of the GIPH Environmental Protection Team took place at the Chamber.
- On 23 April, the GIPH Management Board met with Viscount Richard Mersey, a member of the British House of Lords.
- On 8 June, training entitled “Hard Coal Mining and the Waste Act and Its Implementation” was held at the GIPH headquarters.
- On 22 June, the 11th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened at the Community Centre of the Wujek Coal Mine.

- On 5 November, representatives of enterprises belonging to the Northern Delegation of GIPH met in Koszalin.
- Meetings organized by GIPH were held with representatives of the KADRA Trade Union Alliance, ZG SITG, PARG S.A., and the Murcki and Wieczorek coal mines, concerning further cooperation and the proceedings initiated by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection against coal companies.
- GIPH took part in giving opinions on draft legal acts related to the restructuring process of the hard coal mining sector.
- Meetings were held with representatives of the Yorkshire County Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom and of mineral raw material mining plants from northern Poland.
- Letters were sent to the government side concerning: the problems of the mining sector’s support base related to the implementation of the restructuring programme, proposals for amendments to regulations hindering business activity, and changes to certain provisions of the Customs Code Act of 9 January 1997.
- Another training session organized by GIPH, entitled “Elements of Law for Enterprise Managers,” was held in Ustroń.
- On 20 November, the 10th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened at the Community Centre of the Wujek Coal Mine.
1991-1997
- During the year, several meetings of the GIPH Management Board were held with representatives of the KADRA Trade Union Alliance, ZG SITG, and PARG S.A., concerning further cooperation and the difficult situation of the Polish mining industry.
- Training organized by GIPH entitled “Proceedings Before Supervisory Authorities” took place.
- The Chamber hosted: representatives of the German company Ruhrkohl Handel Inter GmbH and the British consulting company BENCHMARK RESEARCH, a delegation of Canadian experts and representatives of the company COLEBURN from the Republic of South Africa, as well as the Director General of SSM AMSTERDAM.
- A number of opinions, expert studies, and proposals were submitted to representatives of the government side, including those concerning the development of a new model of cooperation between central administration authorities and economic self-government, and the establishment of temporary restrictions on the transport and export of certain goods.
- On 17 April, the Chamber’s Management Board adopted a resolution on GIPH joining the “Direct Environmental Protection Foundation” as a founding member of the foundation.
- On 18 August, a team of experts was established at GIPH, whose task was to verify hard coal resources.
- In Zabrze, a representative of the Chamber’s Management Board signed the founding act of the Foundation for the Coal Mining Museum.
- On 25 March, the 9th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members took place.
- A seminar organized by GIPH entitled “Possibilities for Export Credit Insurance” and a course entitled “Elements of Law for Enterprise Managers” were held.
- Representatives of GIPH took an active part in the meetings of the Subcommittee for the consideration of draft Energy Law acts.
- A number of opinions, expert studies, and proposals were submitted to representatives of the government side, including those concerning: the Waste Act, the need to regulate matters connected with the status of Polish mine rescue workers, the draft Energy Law, the draft Act on economic self-government, the restructuring programme for the coke industry and coking coal mining, the conditions necessary for the proper course of transformation processes in the Katowice agglomeration, and the neutralization of saline mine waters.
- On 22 May, on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of GIPH, a jubilee meeting of the Chamber’s founders and distinguished activists with representatives of central institutions took place.
- Two teams of experts were established at GIPH: one to develop proposals for solutions in the field of the financial restructuring of mining, and another to determine the amount of non-culpable debts of the mining sector incurred in the years 1989–1995.
- Meetings were held with the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, the U.S. Economic Consulate, and representatives of the European Association of Mining Municipalities.
- On 12 November, the 8th General Assembly of Representatives of GIPH Members convened at the Community Centre of the Wujek Coal Mine.
- On 20–22 March, the “Coal and Energy” conference, organized by the Chamber, took place.
- Meetings organized by GIPH were held concerning the possibilities for cooperation between Polish mining enterprises and foreign partners, including with representatives of the State of Virginia (USA), parliamentarians of the People’s Republic of China, and the President of the National Mining Association of the USA, General Richard L. Lawson.
- During the year, several meetings took place between representatives of GIPH, the KADRA Trade Union Alliance, and the Main Board of the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians concerning the expansion of tripartite cooperation.
- A number of opinions, expert studies, and proposals were submitted to representatives of the government side, including those concerning: restructuring measures, technical conditions to be met by construction structures of mining plants, the draft Waste Act, the organization and tasks of mine rescue services, the draft Tax Ordinance Act, the government privatization programme, the draft Act on economic self-government, and the draft Act on chambers of industry and commerce.
- On 25 April, an off-site meeting of the GIPH Supervisory Board took place at the Bełchatów Brown Coal Mine.
- GIPH participated in stationary and off-site meetings of the Parliamentary Subcommittee for Fuel and Energy Policy and Mining.
- On 24 October, an off-site meeting of the GIPH Supervisory Board took place in Kielce, hosted by the Employers’ Association of Mining and Mineral Processing.
- A seminar organized by GIPH entitled “Legal and Commercial Aspects of Contracts in International Trade” and a conference entitled “Coking Coal – Metallurgy and Coking Industry” were held.
- On 12 December, the 7th General Assembly of Representatives of the Members of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce took place at the Community Centre of the Wujek Coal Mine.
- In June, at the 5th General Meeting of GIPH Member Representatives, it was decided to expand operations nationwide and to include mining sectors other than hard coal production, as well as to change the name to the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
The General Inspectorate of State Treasury (GIPH) has published a report titled “The Role of Hard Coal in Meeting the Country’s Energy Needs: A Hard Coal Balance Sheet Through 2010”
The Upper Silesian Mining Chamber was established in March.
