He oversees all of the Chamber’s activities and represents it externally, acting in accordance with the rules of procedure he has adopted.

The Chamber’s Management Board consists of the Chamber President and 2 to 5 members of the Management Board. The Chamber President is elected by the General Assembly of Representatives of the Chamber’s members for a term of 4 years, chairs the Management Board, and organizes its work. Members of the Chamber’s Management Board, including at least one Vice President, are appointed and dismissed by the Chamber Council upon the motion of the President of the Chamber. A person who is a representative of a Chamber member at the General Assembly or a person from outside that group may be appointed as a member of the Management Board.

Composition of the Board of Directors of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce

Janusz Olszowski is a graduate of the Faculty of Mining and Geology at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. At the same university, he also completed postgraduate studies in Aerology, as well as postgraduate studies in Administration and Management at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia. He has continuously improved his qualifications through numerous specialist courses and training programmes in economics, law, and mining, including a course for candidates for supervisory board membership in State Treasury companies and a course for liquidators and bankruptcy trustees.

From 1980 to 1996, he held managerial positions underground in the Janina and Halemba coal mines, as well as at the Central Mining Rescue Station. He served there as Chief Engineer and took part in 25 rescue operations, and also inspected or supervised inspections in all underground, open-pit, and borehole mines in Poland. In 1996, he became Director of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and since 1998 he has served as its President.

He manages the work of the Chamber’s Management Board and is also personally involved in analyzing and issuing opinions on both existing and draft legal acts, representing the Chamber during the work of government and parliamentary committees. His responsibilities also include matters related to the economic and financial aspects of the functioning and restructuring of the fuel and energy sector, as well as issues concerning clean coal technologies.

In the years 2016–2018, Janusz Olszowski served as Vice President of the European Association for Coal and Lignite EUROCOAL, and he currently sits on the Executive Committee of that organization.

He is the author of several dozen publications, expert opinions, and papers delivered at national and international conferences. As part of his additional activity, he also serves on numerous commissions, committees, and other bodies, such as the Steering Committee for Mining, the Executive Committee of the European Association for Coal and Lignite EUROCOAL, the Mining Occupational Safety Commission at the State Mining Authority, the Tripartite Team for Miners’ Social Security, the Mining Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Committee for the Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Scientific Council of the Central Mining Institute, the Scientific Council of the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Regional Energy Council, and the Monitoring Committee for the European Funds for Silesia 2021–2027 programme.

For his work to date, he has received numerous state and ministerial distinctions. He holds the professional rank of General Mining Director, First Class.

Sławomir Obidziński is a graduate of the Faculty of Mining and Geology at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. He began his professional career at the “Czeczott” Hard Coal Mine (1988–1991), where he worked as an underground technical specialist. In 1992, he joined SGS Polska, a subsidiary of the Swiss global inspection and certification company SGS, where he worked for 15 years, successively holding the positions of Office Manager, Regional Director in Katowice, and National Director of the Minerals Division. During this period, he established five local branches: in Brzeszcze, Wola, Katowice, Medyka, and Gliwice. In Wola (near the Czeczott Hard Coal Mine), he organized a coal laboratory that obtained accreditation from the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA) as a testing laboratory. After SGS Polska obtained accreditation as a certification body, he became a lead auditor in two systems: quality management and environmental management.

In the following years, he held senior managerial positions in State Treasury companies. From 2007 to 2014, he served as President of the Management Board of Nadwiślańska Spółka Energetyczna (NSE) in Brzeszcze, and then from 2014 to 2016 as President of the Management Board of Węglokoks Energia in Katowice. Since 2012, NSE had been part of the Węglokoks Capital Group, and during that period he was responsible for the consolidation of the energy and heating assets of the then Kompania Węglowa and Węglokoks. The area of activity of Węglokoks Energia, namely thermal energy, became one of the three pillars of the new strategy then being prepared for the entire Węglokoks Capital Group, alongside coal extraction and coal trading, and the steel segment. Subsequently, from June 2016, he served for three years as President of the Management Board of Węglokoks S.A. During that time, he gained extensive experience in developing corporate strategies, building company value, and business integration within a capital group. In 2019, for a short period, he served as President of the Management Board of Tauron Wydobycie. Then, in the years 2020–2023, he held the position of Member of the Management Board for Technical Matters at JSW Logistics, broadening his expertise with aspects related to bulk goods logistics.

In February 2024, he joined the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GIPH), and in March of that year he was appointed Vice President of the Chamber’s Management Board, supervising the economic and financial aspects of its operations.

Throughout the professional career described above, he continuously enhanced his qualifications in economics and broadly understood management. He completed postgraduate studies in Enterprise Management at the University of Economics in Katowice (1991) and in Banking at the University of Economics in Kraków (1995). In 2012, he obtained the diploma authorizing him to serve on the supervisory boards of State Treasury companies. He also earned the degree of Executive MBA (2012) and subsequently the title of Executive Doctor of Business Administration (2014) at the Institute of Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He holds the professional rank of General Mining Director, Second Class.

Agata Zielińska is a graduate of the Faculty of International Relations at Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University and of the Institute of East Slavic Philology at the Jagiellonian University. She also completed postgraduate studies in Project Management at the University of Economics in Katowice. She is fluent in Russian and English.

From the very beginning of her professional career, she has been involved in event marketing and in the promotion of the broadly understood mining sector. As Vice President of the Management Board of Polska Technika Górnicza S.A., she organized the KATOWICE International Fair of Mining, Power Industry and Metallurgy for more than a dozen years. She organized a number of trade missions for Polish manufacturers of mining machinery and equipment, study tours, and Polish national stands at foreign mining trade fairs. She was also responsible for cooperation with the diplomatic corps and foreign trade media. In the years 2012–2015, on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, she was responsible for the implementation of the Sectoral Promotion Programme for Mining Machinery and Equipment under the systemic project entitled “Promotion of the Polish Economy on International Markets” within the Innovative Economy Operational Programme. Since 2019, as Managing Director, she has managed the event agency EventConcept Sp. z o.o.

She has been associated with the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce since March 2020. She is responsible for the proper operation of the Chamber’s Office, project implementation, activities supporting the just transition of the fuel and energy sector, as well as promotion, the organization of trade fairs, trade missions, conferences, and cooperation with foreign partners.

She is a member of the Executive Committee of EURACOAL (the European Association for Coal and Lignite), the Subcommittee for the Transformation of Mining Regions of the Council for Just Transition under the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, the Regional Council for Just Transition of the Silesian Voivodeship, and the Monitoring Committee for the European Funds for Silesia 2021–2027 programme.

Mariusz Saratowicz is a graduate of the Faculty of Transport at the Silesian University of Technology. He also completed the American-Polish Postgraduate Studies at the Silesian University of Technology in the field of Environmentally Friendly Restructuring of Heavy Industry, as well as postgraduate studies at the University of Warsaw in the fields of European Management and Real Estate Brokerage. As part of his professional development, he also completed a course for candidates for supervisory board membership in State Treasury companies.

He began his professional career immediately after graduation at the TRANSGÓR Coal Industry Freight Forwarding and Transport Company in Chorzów (1990–1995), advancing through successive positions to become Chief Engineer for Technical Support and Plant Operations. In the years 1995–1997, he served as Director of the Automotive Service Centre of the Tegona Technical and Mining Joint-Stock Company in Katowice. From 1997 until August 2016, he was associated with ELTRANS, a company operating, among other areas, in mining, power engineering, and electrical engineering, providing comprehensive supplies of electrical materials together with the execution of implementation tasks. From 1997 to 2001, he served as Vice President, and from 2001 to 2016 he was President of the Management Board and General Director, as well as Coordinator of the ELTRANS Capital Group. Since September 2016, he has been associated with the MAK Group in Warsaw and currently serves as Director of the Katowice Branch of Makubezpieczenia. He is also an Adviser and a Member of the Supervisory Board of Energoaparatura S.A. in Katowice.

At the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce, he was for many years a Member and Vice-Chairman of the Chamber Council. In the years 2016–2020, he served as the Management Board’s Plenipotentiary, and he currently holds the position of Member of the Management Board and Director for Cooperation with Business Partners. He is also Vice President of the Coal Basin Branch of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers and President of the Silesian Sports Society in Katowice.

For his professional achievements and contributions, he has received numerous distinctions and decorations, including the Gold Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland, the Silver Medal for Merit in National Defence, the Honorary Badge “Meritorious for Mining of the Republic of Poland,” and the Gold Honorary Badge for Merits to the Silesian Voivodeship. He has also been awarded the professional rank of General Mining Director, Second Class.
