GIPH's membership in other organizations

The Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce actively cooperates with domestic and foreign institutions that support the development of the mining industry and related sectors. Membership in prestigious organizations gives the Chamber the opportunity to participate in the exchange of experiences, represent the interests of the Polish mining industry on the international stage, and build a network of cooperation that fosters innovation and economic development.

The European Association for Hard Coal and Lignite – EURACOAL – is the umbrella organization of the European coal industry.

EURACOAL was established in 2002 from the European Solid Fuels Association – CECSO – following the expiry of the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community.

EURACOAL has 22 members, including national coal associations, importers’ associations, research institutes, and individual companies. EURACOAL representatives come from 12 countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Ukraine.

EURACOAL’s mission is to emphasize the importance of coal and coal-fired energy in the EU for security of energy supply, energy price stability, economic added value, and environmental protection. EURACOAL seeks to be an active communicator in order to create an appropriate framework within which the European coal industry and coal consumers can operate.

It is an active leader in many initiatives.

EURACOAL has three committees:

  • Energy Policy and Environmental Protection Committee
  • Market Committee
  • Technical Research Committee

EURACOAL is officially represented in the Coal Advisory Group of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel.

EURACOAL participates in the social dialogue of the European Commission (DG for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion).

EURACOAL supports the “Coal Regions in Transition” platform, an initiative of the European Commission led by DG Energy.

EURACOAL cooperates with Members of the European Parliament within the framework of the cross-party Coal Round Table and the European Energy Forum.

The National Chamber of Commerce is the largest independent business organization in Poland. It was established in 1990. It represents the largest number of entrepreneurs, bringing together 160 business organizations.

The National Chamber of Commerce monitors the legislative activity of the Sejm and submits a set of proposals from entrepreneurs to the Government, Parliament, the Chancellery of the President, and EU bodies.

KIG works continuously with the Government (including accompanying business delegations of representatives of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) as well as with government agencies (PAIH, PARP, KOWR) in the implementation of international projects.

It organizes, among others, the Congress of Innovative Economy, the Young Entrepreneurs Forum, the Economic and Diplomatic Opening of the Year, and the European Economic Meeting.

The National Chamber of Commerce organizes seminars, conferences, and other events devoted to individual foreign markets that are particularly important from the point of view of the development prospects for Polish exports, such as India, Iran, Turkey, Brazil, and Algeria. In addition, KIG provides a range of services including issuing certificates of origin for goods, legalizing commercial documents, issuing ATA Carnets, as well as other certificates and attestations.

The National Chamber of Commerce is a member of Eurochambres and the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. KIG has signed cooperation agreements with most national chambers of commerce around the world.

In the field of European integration, the National Chamber of Commerce actively cooperates with:

Eurochambres, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry based in Brussels, which integrates European business self-government and lobbies within EU institutions on behalf of entrepreneurs’ interests, especially in matters concerning legal regulations that may affect the condition of companies.

The European Economic and Social Committee, an advisory and consultative body of the European Commission.

KIG presents the voice of EU entrepreneurs in the form of opinions and position papers of the business community at the EU level regarding policies or proposed legal regulations. The opinions formulated by KIG are often based on surveys conducted among entrepreneurs. A number of EU-related projects carried out by KIG jointly with EU partners and KIG member chambers contribute to strengthening both the position of chambers of commerce as representatives of the business community and the competitive position of companies associated within the chambers.

The National Chamber of Commerce promotes social responsibility in business. Our training sessions and conferences help entrepreneurs implement ethical standards. The most socially responsible companies are recognized in the “Fair Play Enterprise” program.

The National Chamber of Commerce works to improve Poland’s image around the world. If Poland is perceived positively, Polish companies will have better opportunities on the international market. That is why KIG organizes international exhibitions presenting our country during Expo events (Hanover, Aichi), as well as national exhibitions of Polish entrepreneurs around the world. The Polish Brand Institute, established by KIG, also works to promote Poland’s image.

The Mining Machinery Cluster is a spatial and sectoral concentration of enterprises that manufacture and sell a range of related or complementary products for the mining industry.

Only a knowledge-based economy can respond effectively to increasing competition and the shortening product life cycle. Today, cooperation between industry and scientific and research institutions is essential, as is cooperation with local government organizations and business support institutions. Global competition also requires the involvement of greater production potential, which should be reflected in cooperation among companies operating in the same or related sectors by making use of synergy effects, particularly in the areas of knowledge diffusion, attracting new enterprises, and the flow of human capital. Such links have already been operating successfully around the world, including in Poland, and are defined as cluster cooperation.

The group of Founding Members of the Mining Machinery Cluster consists of:

Scientific support institution:
Institute of Mining Technology KOMAG

Business support institution:
Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce

Entrepreneurs:
KOPEX Machinery S.A.
DAMEL S.A.
ELSTA Sp. z o.o.
EDJAN Innovation and Implementation Unit, Dr. Eng. Edward Januszkiewicz
ELHAND TRANSFORMATORY Sp. z o.o.
TIMLER Electrical Engineering Company for Construction and Industry, Electrical Engineer Mieczysław Timler
PONAR – Silesia S.A.

The ceremonial signing of the Agreement on the Commencement of Cooperation, constituting the Founding Act of the Mining Machinery Cluster, took place on 8 September 2011 during the Coal Meeting conference organized by the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce as part of the International Fair of Mining, Power Industry and Metallurgical Industry “Katowice 2011”.

By signing this Act, the Founding Members set themselves the goal of achieving the production capacity needed to develop new, high-quality, innovative, safe mining machinery solutions that would be competitive both on the domestic market and on global markets, as a result of the active cooperation of the Cluster Participants.

The Cluster has an open formula, and its members may include entrepreneurs, scientific institutions, business support institutions, as well as regional authorities.
