Bełchatów is the largest open-pit mine in Poland and one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Bełchatów coal, considered the cheapest energy fuel in Poland, forms the basis for producing the cheapest energy in the country. The Bełchatów mine extracts nearly 42 million tons of coal annually, which accounts for over 50% of the country’s total production of this energy resource.

The lignite deposit operated by KWB Bełchatów has reserves estimated at over 1 billion tons, ensuring the mine’s long-term operation and a key role in ensuring Poland’s energy stability.
