Remediation of Areas Degraded by Mining Activities in Light of Current Legal Regulations: A Guide for Businesses and Public Administration Bodies

Department of Promotion, Publications, and Expert Reports of the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce; Katowice 1997

The idea for this study arose from observations of current practices. The initiative for this project came from Gliwicka Spółka Węglowa S.A., which was the first to draw attention to the unfavorable legal conditions and the lack of clear procedures for activities related to the remediation of areas degraded by mining operations.

In 1997, the publishing market featured numerous studies on environmental protection. However, these were mostly extensive works, and thus finding answers to pressing questions regarding the subject matter within them was a time-consuming task. The authors’ intention was to provide those involved in environmental protection with a user-friendly guide containing a compendium of information to streamline the formal and legal procedures necessary for the remediation of post-mining areas.

The study was also used as supplementary material in various specialized training courses on mining law and environmental protection law.
