On March 16th of this year, students from the University of Economics in Katowice and the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice participated in a study visit to the town of Rydułtowy as part of the “Regional Observatory of the Transformation Process 2.0” project.
This project aims to prepare students for the future challenges of the region’s industrial and energy transformation.
During their visit to Rydułtowy, the students met with Marcin Połomski, Mayor of Rydułtowy, who guided them through the KWK ROW Ruch Rydułtowy mine and sites related to the transformation and development of post-industrial areas in Rydułtowy.
The students had the opportunity to visit the Rydułtowy Transfer Center, as well as the land acquired from the Mine Restructuring Company – the new sports shooting range and the Leon III Shaft. A short presentation on the potential and future of post-industrial areas in Rydułtowy was held at the latter location.
The study visit provided an excellent opportunity to gain practical knowledge and engage directly in creating forward-looking land development projects. The mayor also presented investment prospects and adaptation plans aimed not only at regenerating but also revitalizing the region.
Based on field observations and available planning documents, the students will develop concepts for the future use of the former KWK ROW Ruch Rydułtowy mine site. Their designs will incorporate both spatial and social aspects to ensure harmonious and functional development of these areas.
