Invitation to a study trip to the Barbara Experimental Mine in Mikołów

The Mining Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Industry Skills Center “Ore Mining 4.0” invite you to participate in a study trip to the Barbara Experimental Mine in Mikołów, a facility of the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute.

The invitation is primarily addressed to vocational teachers, career counselors, mining students, or interested students studying for the mining industry (in the latter case, they must be of legal age).

The visit is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2025.


Program:

  • 6:30 AM – Departure from Lubin
  • 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM – Tour of GIG-PIB KD Barbara. History of GIG-PIB KD Barbara. Current projects.
  • 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM History of GIG-PIB KD Barbara. Current projects.
  • 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM Industrial dust explosion hazards
  • 11:30 AM – 11:45 AM Break, discussion
  • 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM Underground descent
  • 12:30 PM – 12:45 PM Demonstration of a coal dust explosion in a 100-meter tunnel
  • 12:45 PM – 1:00 PM Methane extinguishing demonstration
  • 1:00 PM – 1:30 PM Questions and answers. End of the meeting
  • 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Lunch
  • 3:00 PM – Return to Lubin

The visit will include a presentation of the underground testing ground, so participants should ensure they wear appropriate footwear and outerwear (sports or mountain shoes).

Participation in the event is free and includes transportation to and from Lubin, meals, and a visit to the “Barbara” Experimental Mine.

Space is limited (14 people). In the event of an oversubscription, registration will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the remaining spots have been filled, the remaining participants will be placed on a waiting list.

The “Study trip for teachers and career counselors to a workplace related to the mining industry in Upper Silesia” is being implemented as part of the project entitled “Establishment and support for the operation of a Branch Skills Center implementing the concept of a Center of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) for underground mining, metal ore processing, and mineral resources.” The project is supported by the Recovery and Resilience Instrument, i.e., the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO), investment: A3.1.1. Support for the development of modern vocational education, higher education, and lifelong learning; specific investment objective: Providing space for effective cooperation between schools, including vocational schools, universities, employers, research and development centers, and other business institutions, and promoting vocational education. Investment scope: Establishment and support for the operation of 120 Branch Skills Centers (BCUs), implementing the concept of Centers of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs).”
