On May 27, 2025, a unique study trip to the “Barbara” Experimental Mine in Mikołów took place, organized by the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The event was attended by vocational teachers, career counselors, and students and pupils studying in the mining industry.
During the visit, participants had the opportunity to learn about the history of the Central Mining Institute (GIG-PIB), which hosts the “Barbara” Experimental Mine. This is where modern mining technologies used worldwide are tested, making this a truly unique place!
The trip program included both a theoretical section, which addressed the threat of industrial dust explosions, and a practical section. Participants had the opportunity to go underground, observe a coal dust explosion in a 100-meter tunnel, and participate in a methane extinguishing demonstration. This unforgettable experience provided a wealth of valuable information and experiences!
The event was part of activities organized by the Mining Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Copper Center for Personnel Training as part of the project “Establishment and Support for the Operation of an Industry Skills Center Implementing the Concept of a Center of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs) for Underground Mining, Metal Ores, and Mineral Resources Processing.”
This was a unique opportunity to delve into the secrets of modern mining and occupational safety! Such places are rarely open to the public, so we were delighted to be able to participate. More events are coming soon – follow us and stay up to date with innovations in Polish mining!
